29 Sep Piano stairs activation for Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival
Sandton City becomes an overnight virtuoso in celebration and promotion of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival 2017
Scaling stairs has never been more fun, or melodic! To promote the 20th Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival, Born Intelligence, in partnership with Booming Media developed a musical stairway activation aimed at transporting visitors in a symphony of sounds to the next level of the Checkers courtyard in the Sandton Convention Centre.
The Joy of Jazz festival is South Africa’s oldest jazz festival and this year they are celebrating 20 years of entertaining the nation. With 30 performances over three days on four stages Standard Bank wanted to give prospective visitors an immersive and musical taste of what they could expect from the festival.
Imagine the surprised reactions shoppers had when they suddenly hear music coming from below their feet as they are walking up a staircase!
By attaching sensors to lightweight boards on each stair, Born Intelligence was able to mimic various tones when people stepped on each stair. This interactive interface quickly engaged passer-byes, prompting them to walk up and down the stairs, sometimes running or even jumping to try and play different songs!
Strauss Bornman, our head developer designed and installed this musical activation overnight with the support of Booming Media Hotshots who created the ‘body’ of the piano. We invite all clients to go and visit these magical stairs, and don’t forget to share your songs with us!
